United States and Politics
President Trump’s ban on CNN, MS NOW (formerly MSNBC) and Politico from the White House has taken effect. Journalists from those outlets were denied entry to the grounds, and their press badges were confiscated. Trump cited “fake news” and unfavorable coverage. The outlets have called the move an illegal assault on First Amendment rights, and say they will keep reporting and may challenge it legally.
Separately, the US, Denmark and Greenland announced a security agreement. Trump described it as giving the US “permanent control over security, and all other needs” in Greenland, including an expanded military presence and a ban on adversaries establishing bases or making certain sensitive investments without US approval. Denmark and Greenland stressed that the deal preserves Greenland’s sovereignty and the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Denmark. Formal signing is expected next week at the UN General Assembly.
Middle East
Saudi Arabia issued air-raid alerts for Riyadh, the first for the capital in the recent escalation, and for other areas after reports of explosions. An all-clear followed. Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis claimed responsibility for missile and drone attacks on “sensitive sites” in Riyadh and on Aramco facilities in Yanbu. Smoke and flames were reported near Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport, apparently involving a fuel tank. No major casualties were immediately reported.
This fits into broader regional tensions involving Iran and the Strait of Hormuz, where commercial shipping has faced repeated attacks, along with related US and Iranian military actions.
